Limited or no connectivity on DG45ID motherboard

I had this issue with the integrated LAN on the Intel DG45ID motherboard when I installed it back in Dec 2008.  I tried a couple times, unsuccessfully, to resolve the issue. Suggestions from Intel support were of no help.  Then upon contacting support again in April 2009, they were able to suggest a path that resolved the issues.  It had appeared that the most recent BIOS version 0091 resolved the issue but the problem started up again in fall 2009.  Intel suggested replacing the power supply. So even though there is a cost to installing a newer power supply I did that.  The problem disappeared for a few days and then came back again. The only solution is to turn the power supply off on the computer - then when it boots back up again, you may have to reset the Real-time clock. When windows comes up, the integrated LAN will work again for a number of days before going out again.  Intel's only other suggestion is to freshly reinstall the operating system.  That's not going to happen anytime soon.

Here are the steps from Intel:

The most current BIOS version is 0091; hence, we suggest updating to this version as follows:

1. Remove the LAN driver from Add/Remove Programs.

2. Restart the system into BIOS by pressing <F2> during the boot process. Once in the BIOS setup utility, press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings. Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs, which are located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility. Press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.

3. Restart the system into the Operating System and update the BIOS:

Note: Once the update is done, please, restart the system into BIOS and repeat the following:

Press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings. Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs, which are located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility. Press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.

4. Restart the system and re-install the latest LAN driver:

The issue has returned!  Popup "Local Area Connection A network cable is unplugged"

This happened in December 2009 after something caused a wireless router to blow up.  The Intel integrated LAN quit working again with the above error.
None of the steps above resolved the issue. What did resolve it was the following:

Here are our recommendations:

1. Remove the RTC (Real Time Clock) battery and leave it out for 30 minutes. After this period of time, insert the battery back in and turn the system back on; if it displays POST messages, go into BIOS Setup Utility by pressing <F2> during the boot process.

2. Remove the LAN drivers from Add/Remove programs. Shut down the system, disconnect the power supply and drain all power from the motherboard. Restart the system and install the latest LAN drivers.

Update 3/20/2010:

That actually resolved the issue for a few days and then it happened again.  Right now I just use a PCI Gigabit ethernet card in place of the integrated one.  The PCI card seems to be working fine until I have some free time to completely reinstall MS Windows which is what Intel suggested.
