Error Message: Cannot find server; page cannot be displayed

 

I recently ran into the above error message.  Here are two interesting links regarding these types of issues.

Basically it appears that in most cases the computer my have some sort of spyware or adware on it.  However, as the one poster said, I also had them install Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware and the systems come up clean.”  I had a similar issue come up recently and it was very perplexing.  I removed the Comet cursor program that was causing the web page to get redirected through their search engine each time but that still did not resolve the issue of being able to view any linked websites once you view the initial site.  For example, you could go to Ebay but then would get the above error message after you

Click on a link.

 

Once the Comet cursor did not seem to make a difference, I checked the dial-up properties and found that the user did not have “Enable software compression”  If you are on Windows 98 you can check this by selecting

Tools
Internet Options
Connections
Properties
and then Server Types

 

Once that was enabled, all the websites came up successfully…
